Don’t Hire another Web Developer Until You Read This!

Web Development outsourcing run-around

Are you Tired of getting the Web Development Run-around?

Anyone who has either outsourced to a software web development company or has worked with a freelancer knows of the negligence, the time difference difficulties, the cultural differences, the unrealistic expectations, the additional fees for padding, egos, language barriers, the poor communication and the concept of “your project is scheduled to be completed tomorrow”, but tomorrow either comes weeks or months later or never comes.

Hello, my name is Dennis and I’ve experienced all of the above and much more, resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars and many years of time wasted. I’ve experienced firsthand the disastrous results from outsourcing because I owned software development offices in India and I have hired and had let go many outsourcing companies, freelance web designers, software developers and programmers over the last 15 years.

For all of these reasons above and many more, I learned how to design and develop websites, set up servers, write code and I became a project manager, then decided to start a web development company, so you wouldn’t have to experience the pain that I’ve already been through.

Our company Kats Software is a software development and website design studio located in South Florida. We have over 15 years of professional website design, database, custom software development, and cyber-security experience.

We can handle any website design project whether large or small, e-commerce site, database project or complicated custom software development project. We can work project-by-project or on an hourly basis and we offer competitive rates. If you’ve already outsourced or are considering outsourcing, allow us to oversee your project either as a consultant, project manager or just to keep everyone honest and on-schedule.

Helpful Tips to Consider Prior to Hiring a Web Developer or Outsourcing to a Company

  • Set up a Screenshare First: It’s always a good idea to talk with the representative face-to-face rather than online. Keep in mind that people working outside of the U.S.A. don’t have a lot of the same luxuries that we have here. Most of the programmers/freelancers are working from home or in offices that don’t have access to a very fast internet connection. Most of the phone calls and fast internet times are subject to rolling electrical blackouts.
  • Know Your People: Ensure that you can clearly understand the person you are going to be working with and be sure that they are clear about your project milestones and deliverables. Ensure that you are outsourcing your project to an organization or an individual that will make themselves accountable. My advice is to start them off with a small, low-cost project to see how that goes before you hire them to do your big stuff.
  • Signed Agreements Usually Means Nothing: No matter how good your agreement terms and written deliverables seem to be, ask yourself whether you are going to take legal action against them if any of the agreed-to terms are not honored. Are you really going to spend the time, money and resources to sue in another country? Even if you get a judgment, how are you going to collect it?
  • Time Difference Factor. Real-time communication makes for inconvenient and long response times. There is also a reduced sense of accountability, commitment, and partnership when dealing with outsourcing.
  • Poorly-written Code: In India as well as many other countries, anybody can become a web designer or software developer despite their qualifications. Simply because someone claims to be a programmer or web developer, doesn’t mean that they can design or edit images in Photoshop, set up or configure a server, create or maintain a database, write or integrate an API or are aware of which cyber-security measures to take to avoid being hacked. To be a well-rounded web developer, you must have knowledge regarding front-end and back-end development.
  • Intellectual Property Theft/Back Doors: Your Intellectual property and data security could be at serious risk. Most people are under the impression that they are protected by the terms of their signed agreement and that the individuals who are working on their project have been vetted. How do you know whether or not your outsource provider wrote a back door into your project code in case they do not like the way you’ve been treating them.
  • Outsourcing Lawsuits: You may never know whether or not your site, software project or code has been copied, stolen or is being sold on the black market. If you find out that this has happened and you’re planning to file a lawsuit against your outsourcing provider or neighbor’s kid, note that outsourcing lawsuits are notoriously difficult to prosecute and rarely benefits either party in the long term.
